The vision and determination of our founder and owner Dennis Doehl guides Jay’s Moving & Storage Ltd. to be a leader in the moving and freight industry.
Establishing Jay’s
Dennis's persistence and strong work ethic helped overcome many challenges. He got into the transportation industry as a driver/salesman for Melhill Beverages (Pepsi-Cola) in Regina at the age of 17. His entrepreneurial spirit led to the family-owned and operated trucking proprietorship, Jay’s Moving & Storage Ltd. in 1964. Forty-seven years of quality transportation service, and a strong commitment to customer service, make Jay’s one of Saskatchewan’s Top 100 Companies and Regina’s Top 50.
Inspiring leadership
Unfazed by downturns in the economy, the geographical spread or tough competition, Dennis grew his small trucking operation into moving, freight and storage services. Under his leadership, Jay’s has grown from a handful of employees and small fleet into the successful company it is today. Jay’s now has a staff of over 450 and fleet of over 600 trucks and trailers, which efficiently handle a complete range of moving / relocation, freight and warehousing services.
Transportation expert
Dennis Doehl was inducted into the Saskatchewan Transportation Hall of Fame in 2004. This honor was earned not just by building a solid transportation company, but by contributing to the industry and community as a leader in the Saskatchewan Trucking Association, and by serving as a board member for Atlas Canada, the Canadian Trucking Association, Canadian Association of Movers and the Canadian Tariff Bureau.
Promoting the economic welfare of Saskatchewan
Jay’s Moving & Storage Ltd. operates from 11 full service locations across Saskatchewan and Alberta, helping sustain the local economies and services base. The strong sense of family, community and personal work ethic that Dennis embodies has made Jay's a cut above the rest. He devotes much of his time to trying to promote the economic welfare in the communities where they have branches. Dennis's contribution is well recognized from his time on the Southwest Saskatchewan Tourism Association Board and the Economic Development Committee of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.
Giving back to the community
Dennis stays close to his community by helping people who are in need. He believes that giving back to the community is as important as growing his business. Always first in line to offer his help to those in need, local charities count on his personal, and Jay's corporate, contribution of time and resources to further their cause. He has helped many foundations like:
- Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation: For the past 20 years, Jay’s has sponsored the Annual Telemiracle Golf Tournament and raised over $750,000 for the foundation.
- Multiple Sclerosis MS Bike Tour and MS Walk: Jay’s provides transportation, refrigeration services and volunteers for the events held in Saskatchewan and Alberta. We have helped the MS Society raise hundreds of thousands of dollars on a regional basis.
- Special Olympics Saskatchewan (SOS): Jay’s plays a lead role in organizing the “World’s Largest Truck Convoy” in Saskatchewan. This event raises funds to help athletes with intellectual disabilities participate in sports.
- Various other charities
- Festival of Trees
- Wheelchair Foundation of Canada
- Breast Cancer Association
- Rotary Club
- Teen Challenge Saskatchewan
- Parkinson’s Foundation
Destined for success
In spite of many obstacles, Dennis is always focused on quality service in transportation. He has always been determined to make Jay’s accountable to its customers -- a principle that is evident in every interaction with Jay's staff.
