Founder

Jay’s Group of Companies is a true reflection of Dennis Doehl, company president and founder. Dennis Doehl is most definitely a “self-made man” and a true entrepreneur. He learned early on that hard work, determination, vision and tenacity were the keys to overcoming obstacles in life and in business. This recipe for success has served him well over the past forty-three years as he carefully built a thriving and diversified transportation company that handles a complete range of transportation related activities including personal household goods relocations, office and commercial moving, general merchandise freight transportation, warehousing and product distribution.

Today, Jay’s Group of Companies operates out of twelve full service locations throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta, thus offering employment opportunities to the people of these regions.

The road to success was not an easy one. Downturns in the economy, the vastness of the geography and the onslaught of predatory type competition may have felled a less determined man, but not Dennis Doehl. Throughout each challenge, Dennis saw the “opportunities” and he took full advantage by expanding while others were downsizing and as he was improving the quality of service, others were cutting corners. Through good times and bad, Dennis Doehl prevailed, perhaps due in part to his refusal to give up and his willingness to make personal sacrifices. Dennis Doehl has dedicated his career to making the transportation industry more professional and more accountable to the public it serves.

For the past thirty years, Dennis has been on the Executive of the Saskatchewan Trucking Association and is the recipient of their 1999 Trailmobile Award. He has also been a member of the Executive Board of Directors for Atlas Van Lines for the past twenty five years. Currently, Jay’s Group of Companies is Atlas’ second largest agency group in Canada. Throughout his career, Dennis has also served as a board member with the Canadian Trucking Association, the Canadian Association of Movers and the Canadian Tariff Bureau.

Similarly, Dennis’ old fashioned values of family, community and a strong personal work ethic is what has set his company apart from some of his competition. It may also explain why Dennis Doehl feels such a deep-seated, personal responsibility to give “something back” to the communities where he does business. Jay’s is renowned for their generosity and their willingness to be “first in line” to help those in need, and their support can always be relied upon by local charitable organizations. Dennis contributes his personal time, money and resources to many causes. A few that are very close to his heart include:

  • Kinsment Telemiracle Foundation: For the past sixteen years, Jay’s has sponsored the annual Telemiracle Golf Tournament and in doing so, has raised over $419,128.44 for the foundation who use these funds to help local citizens with special needs.
  • Multiple Sclerosis MS Bike Tour and Super Cities Walk for MS: Jay’s has supported these worthwhile fundraisers by providing transportation and refrigeration services as well as volunteers for the events that are held in Saskatchewan and Alberta, thus helping the M.S. Society raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in a regional basis.
Another unique aspect of Dennis Doehl’s character is his civic pride. To help bolster the economic fortunes of his home province, he has recently been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Southwest Saskatchewan Tourism Association and serves on the Economic Development Committee for the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.

Founder and President, Dennis Doehl
with his wife, Arlene.
Through hard work, dedication and determination, we have begun to realize our dream of seeing Jay's Moving & Storage expand to become Jay's Group of Companies, encompassing household goods relocations, corporate relocations, office and commercial moving, general merchandise freight services, warehousing and distribution.

In the midst of challenging times and an increasingly competitive service oriented marketplace, Jay's Group of Companies has continued to expand and improve its quality of service.

While searching for new areas of opportunity, we fully realize the importance of continually striving to improve service capabilities.

Arlene and I are proud of what has been accomplished in a relatively short period of time. Today, Jay's Group of Companies is one of the largest carriers in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
