Jay's can provide you with a full service move by handling all of the details and making all of the necessary arrangements on your behalf, often at special rates through our bulk buying power. Our careful scheduling will get you in and settled more quickly, thus helping save you time and money.

People often forget that most appliances or mechanical equipment such as washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, grandfather clocks etc. need to be prepared to transport to protect them from internal damage. This servicing should only be done by a licensed professional. Do not plug in and use appliances and televisions for at least twelve hours after delivery when moving in the winter.

Most customers clean out their refrigerators and freezers before they move. Carefully dry the inside of these appliances. We suggest you put a handful of baking soda into a sock and place it inside to keep the interior smelling fresh.

Jay's understands that your pets are important members of your family. We can arrange for travel cages, boarding and the air transport on your behalf.

Your personal computer and printer also require special attention. Wires attached to moveable hardware such as modem, mouse, or routers must be disconnected. Your PC should be "parked" by inserting a blank floppy disk into the disk drive (if applicable). Paper holders and feeders from printers must be detached. Monitors and other hardware should be wrapped similar to other home electronics. Be sure that magnetic storage such as floppy disks or tapes / tape drives are never packed near magnets (such as those on your stereo speakers). You should be sure to "back-up" files on your hard drive by copying them on to a CD, DVD, or external hard drive and keep them in your possession during the move.

Jay's can move your plants on the van with your furniture, however, this method is best for short distance moves. Because of their delicate nature it's difficult to successfully relocate household plants. Temperature, moisture and light variances can quickly affect their health. We suggest that you obtain professional advice from your nursery on which of your plants have the best chances of survival. Jay's can also arrange for air transport, however neither the airlines nor Jay's can assume liability for you plants. Jay's will, however, make arrangements to have your plants protectively packaged before they're shipped.

Some items like swing sets, garden sheds, exercise equipment etc. require special disassembly in order to fit on the moving van. Jay's can arrange this service at a reasonable cost.

The preferred way to move electronic components is in their original styrofoam packing materials. If you don't have the cartons, your Jay's agent can handle everything in your entertainment centre. The components (e.g. Receiver, CD player, DVD player / recorder, VCR) will be wrapped separately in paper or padded with bubble wrap.

The tone arm of your turntable will be secured, the needle removed and turntable screws tightened. CD player should be "locked" and disc removed. These components will be carefully packed in a sturdy carton line with paper or Styrofoam "peanuts" will be marked "fragile".

Pianos of varying sizes can be moved safely on the Jay's moving van. In some cases, such as with grand or baby grand pianos, pre-move servicing or disassembly by a certified piano technician may be required.

Your Automobile

Your Automobile can travel on the same van as your furniture. Our full air ride suspension provides a cushion of air instead of steel springs so all of your belongings get a smooth ride.

Your shipment is carefully loaded and arranged in tiers to ensure that your possessions are packed in tightly so as not to shift during transport.

We can also arrange for transport via car carrier of rail.

Automobiles should have their gas tanks reduced to one-quarter full before shipment. Nothing should be packed inside your vehicle and a set of keys must be provided. Your Jay's representative can provide you with complete instructions. Remember motorized vehicles are protected to their market value not replacement value.

Maid Service

We can offer you the convenience of Maid service at the end of your move.

Our quick tidy up services gives you one less thing to think about during a busy time. This may be a welcome convenience when you are already on your way to your new home.
