Packing & Unpacking

At Jay's Moving & Storage, we know that proper packing is critical to a successful move. Therefore, we have endeavoured to put together the best packing teams in the moving industry. Your possessions represent both an emotional and monetary investment which deserve the best care available while they are being moved.

The Jay's Team of trained and experienced packing professionals have the proper materials and know-how to assure your possessions arrive safely at your new home. Allowing Jay's to do your packing will also save you time when you need it most.

Some items including antique tables, marble table tops and other priceless possessions may require custom built wooden crates to properly safeguard them in transit.

China and crystal are carefully packed in clean newsprint with each bundle placed on edge over a layer of crushed paper in a china barrel. Layers are tiered to fill the carton.

Delicate figurines are carefully wrapped in tissue paper and then wrapped again in clean newsprint. If you wish, extra protection can be provided by the use of specially designed figurine cartons.

Individually wrapped chinaware and stemware is placed into a specially designed container. Cellular compartments and professional methods of packing provide the most proven means of protection.

Large furniture pieces are padded carefully during the loading for safe protection against marks or scratches.

The best way to move electronic components is in their original cartons with the original packing materials. You can do this yourself but if you don't have these cartons, Jay's can carefully pack everything in your entertainment centre: large screen T.V., VCR, stereo tuners and amplifiers, CD players and tape decks.

Computers and printers require special care. Wires and cables need to be disconnected and a blank floppy disk should be inserted in your PC to protect the disk drive. Monitors and hardware should be wrapped similar to other home electronics. Jay's recommends that you backup your system on to CD, DVD, or external Hard Drive and take them with you during the move.

Mirrors and artwork require extra protection. Our specially designed, double walled mirror cartons come in two sizes and telescope outwards to fit any treasured possession. Custom wooden crates can be built for oversize oil paintings.

Valuable, delicate, standard size chandeliers can be fully protected in our specially designed triple walled chandelier cartons, complete with hanging bar.

Oversize chandeliers may require custom built wooden crates. Jays will build each crate to fit the item perfectly, and also surrounds the article inside the crate with protective padding.

Special care is always taken with children's toys to ensure these important items arrive safely at your new residence. Jay's packers take the time to put your children at ease and help them understand that we will take excellent care of their personal possessions.

Your mattresses and box springs will be kept clean and sanitary in specially designed cartons made to fit various bed sizes from crib to king.

By law, movers cannot ship aerosols on our vans because they might leak in transit or even explode. Other non-admissibles include caustic drain cleaners and flammables like gasoline, paint thinner, charcoal starter etc. Your Jay's representative can help you identify non-admissibles prior to packing day.

Dustproof, reinforced wardrobe cartons keep clothing and drapes neat and clean so that they can be hung up in your closet when you arrive at your new home.

Jewelry and Other Valuables

We recommend that you carry irreplaceable or expensive items with you. Jewelry, legal documents, stamp or coin collections, etc, are not covered under a mover's transit protection (cargo protection/valuation) and thus cannot claim for loss or damage of such items.

Service Options

Packing requirements may vary depending on your particular situation. You may request the entire household packed, in which case Jay's Moving & Storage will need to arrange at least one full day to complete the service. If you have a large amount of household goods, we may ask to do a prepack to ensure that adequate time is allowed to perform a thorough pack.

Partial packing is also a very popular service, in which Jay's Moving & Storage will pack only the breakable and high-value items to ensure safe transit. All other personal effects and household items would then be your responsibility to pack and have ready for moving day. This service is designed to reduce your total investment.

Self Packing

If you are trying to save money on your move, you may want to pack some of your own items like towels, bedding or books. Please remember that if you do your own packing, Jay's may not assume responsibility for the condition of the contents since we have no control over how they've been packed. Unpacking Services

Any cartons packed, for you by Jay's will be unpacked in your new home at your request. Individual items will be unwrapped and placed on tables or counters. Clothes will be removed from wardrobes and hung in closets. All packing materials will be taken away for disposal on unpacking day.

Customers wishing to do their own unpacking can simply call the destination agent to pick up the cartons once they have completed this unpack.

Your Jay's crew will place your furniture where you want in your new home. They'll carry cartons to the rooms that are marked on the containers.

They'll unroll rugs and reassemble items that they took apart at loading.
