Packing

What You'll Need

  1. Boxes
  2. Marking
  3. Pen, Bubble Wrap, Newspaper and Tissue
  4. Packing Tape and Scissors
  5. Tape Measure

Tips

  1. Pack one room at a time. Label each carton with its destination (what room it will go into) before you seal it.
  2. Make sure you have enough wardrobe boxes for your hanger clothes. You really don't want to be left ironing all you clothes when you arrive at your new home!
  3. Pack what you need least, first. For example, if you move in the fall, pack your summer clothing first.
  4. Pack heavy items in small boxes, and linens and towels in medium sized boxes. Try to keep the weight of the boxes under 50lbs.
  5. Mark all boxes, designating room and box number. Create a log to show the number of boxes packed per room, and the total number of cartons packed. This will make it easy to assess any lost boxes.
  6. Start packing well ahead of the move. Pack a few boxes a day to make moving day a little less stressful.
  7. Be sure to have plenty of packing material available such as; bubble wrap, newspaper and tissue.
  8. Be sure that the bottoms of all your cartons are taped up securely and will hold the weight of the contents. Packing tape or gummed tape is a far better idea than masking tape as masking tape will not hold securely enough. Pack heavier items toward the bottom of the box and lighter items toward the top.
