Baffled over what to do with your waterbed (sorry, we couldn't help ourselves)? Moving your waterbed can be done safely and dryly if you know what you're doing. There are six basic baffle types:
Floating Baffle -- The unattached baffle mattress floats loose inside the mattress cell. You will have to hold the baffles in place during the draining and folding process.
Attached Baffle -- The baffle is secured to the mattress cell and can be folded and moved much easier than other baffle systems.
Fiber Mattress -- Considerable care must be taken during draining and packing. Do not fold this mattress. If the internal layers of fiber become wet, you could have permanent damage to the baffling system.
Chambered Mattress -- The mattress cell contains several individual cells. Folding will damage these cells. After draining your mattress, use the roll technique to prepare for packing.
Cellular Mattress -- This mattress has long individual tubes made of plastic. When the tubes are placed side by side, they form the foundation of the mattress. The top quilting is placed over the tubes, and the unit appears to be an ordinary mattress. This type should be rolled, not folded.
Non-Baffled -- The easiest of all waterbed mattresses to drain and prepare for moving. You can use either the folding or rolling technique. Unless yours is a fiberfill system, do not fold or roll your mattress until all the water has been removed.
